Apprenticeship programs are designed to prepare you with the skills and experience you need for a high-paying, successful career in the trades. Apprentices learn under the guidance of skilled workers, known as journeymen. On-the-job training and classroom instruction combine to make you the best qualified craftsperson in your field. Apprenticeships are based on a written agreement, called an “indenture,” between the apprentice and joint apprenticeship committee.
Get PAID to learn! From the very first day that you’re hired by a contractor, you’ll start earning a competitive wage while you receive your training. Apprentices usually start at about half of the skilled journeyman’s rate of pay, with periodic raises until you reach the full journeyman scale at the end of the apprenticeship period. There’s no cost to you for your training — and your opportunities are endless.
If you’re still in school, consider exploring courses that will help you develop the practical skills you’ll need as an apprentice. (Math and science are important for many trades, along with shop courses and CTE programs.) After graduation, start applying for apprenticeship training with your local unions! Applications can be accepted in-person or online and vary by program.
You won’t need to look far to see our local IMPACT. An IMPACT Construction Agreement means skilled and well-trained union tradesmen working in collaboration with local union contractors to ensure quality projects built free of disruption and avoidable delays.
